Objectives of the Role

As a Senior Node.js Engineer at Glass Atlas, you will develop and maintain backend services and integrations that support our eCommerce client platforms.

Working primarily with Node.js, TypeScript and cloud-based infrastructure, you will build reliable integrations between BigCommerce and external systems, helping ensure data flows and backend processes operate reliably at scale.

You will work across multiple client projects, solving integration challenges, improving system reliability and delivering robust backend services that support modern digital commerce environments.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with APIs, integrations and cloud-based services, and who is comfortable operating across multiple systems in a fast-paced agency environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain backend services using Node.js and TypeScript

Build and support integrations between ecommerce platforms and external systems

Implement and maintain serverless services and backend workloads using cloud platforms (primarily GCP)

Develop solutions for data synchronisation, transformation and event processing

Debug and resolve production issues across integrations and backend services

Work with the APIs to build and maintain system integrations

Collaborate with frontend engineers, technical leads and project teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following internal engineering standards

Support junior developers through collaboration, troubleshooting and knowledge sharing

Contribute to improving backend development practices and integration patterns within the team.

Core Skills

Strong experience developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript

Experience building and maintaining API integrations

Practical experience working with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS or similar)

Experience working with serverless architectures or cloud functions

Strong debugging and problem-solving ability, particularly within integration-heavy systems

Solid understanding of REST APIs, asynchronous processing and backend service design

Experience working with production systems and diagnosing live issues

Ability to work independently and deliver reliable backend solutions

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams

Experience managing work across multiple projects or systems.

Desirable Experience

Experience with SaaS eCommerce platforms (BigCommerce, Shopify etc.)

Experience building middleware or integration services

Experience working with event-driven systems, queues or background processing

Experience working in an agency or multi-client engineering environment

Exposure to modern headless or composable commerce architectures.
